My original destination when I took the Endwell motel photos, Endicott is a couple of towns over from me, and one of what are called the triple cities (although only Binghamton is an actual city). The birthplace of IBM and thus partially responsible for the device you’re seeing these photos on, Endicott thrived up until a series of IBM hazardous spills dating back to the late 1970s were discovered in the 1990s. Many cancer cases, lawsuits and even an 350 acre toxic plume followed, with IBM selling their main campus in 2002. In more recent years the town has struggled, and constantly rising rent prices in the surrounding areas have led to a wave of poor folk moving in to areas that are more affordable, in part due to problems with/perceptions of drinking water and toxic plumes.
